Vision and Values
2016 has marked many new beginnings for us at St Andrew's and it has felt appropriate to reflect afresh on our core vision and purpose as a Church of England primary school seeking to serve the whole community of Chedworth and beyond.
We decided that a new school logo was needed which would express the ethos and values of our amazing school and all that makes it such a very special place.
As a rural school, beautiful trees surround us in Chedworth and we feel that the tree symbolises the way we are growing together in community. The tree is also iconic in Christian belief. The 'Chedworth Tree' forms the shape of the cross reminding us that Christ is at the centre of our school family and all our values are rooted in his life and teaching.
The leaves on the 'Chedworth Tree' are made of children's hand prints. Each of us has a unique hand print, we are therefore reminded that we are a community of individuals. We celebrate every child's unique gifts and abilities at St Andrew's and encourage one another to use those abilities to serve the common good.
Our Core Christian Values
Children, staff and governors consulted together to determine which Christian values should underpin our corporate life together. Although we focus on twelve values over a twenty four month period, we decided that Trust, Respect and Forgiveness were at the very heart of our life here so these, together with the word Learn are an integral part of our logo.
Learn - We believe that as a Church of England school we are offering our children the very best education possible. We are never complacent! Our children are hugely aspirational and we work to ensure that each individual reaches their full potential intellectually, spiritually, morally, socially and culturally. Our logo reminds us that just as each tree contributes to improving the environment, we aim for nothing less than to prepare and equip our children to 'change the world for the better' whatever their chosen life path.
Trust - As the tree is rooted in the ground, Christianity is rooted in a deep trust that God is good and wants the best for us. We trust him, and in his strength we work continually to become people that others can trust and rely on.
Respect - We believe that every human being is created in God's image and therefore should be treated with dignity and respect. The variety of hands on the tree are a celebration of diversity and difference and we work hard to ensure that our children have opportunities to engage meaningfully with people of different cultures, faiths and traditions.
Forgive - The cross of the logo is a reminder that at the heart of the Christian faith is the belief that, whilst everyone gets things wrong from time to time, God is always ready to forgive and offer the opportunity of a fresh start. Following Jesus' example and teaching, we also seek to forgive one another in order that relationships can flourish and our community can become even stronger and more resilient.
