As a Church of England Primary School, our ethos is firmly grounded in Christian Values. We are committed to celebrating each child in our school. We seek to provide opportunities, recognising the gifts and talents of each individual. Our close knit community allows us to help our children to grow and flourish, both personally and academically.

Vision and Values

2016 marked many new beginnings for us at St Andrew's and it felt appropriate to reflect afresh on our core vision and purpose as a Church of England primary school seeking to serve the whole community of Chedworth and beyond.

We decided that a new school logo was needed which would express the ethos and values of our amazing school and all that makes it such a very special place.

As a rural school, beautiful trees surround us in Chedworth and we feel that the tree symbolises the way we are growing together in community. The tree is also iconic in Christian belief. The 'Chedworth Tree'  forms the shape of the cross reminding us that Christ is at the centre of our school family and all our values are rooted in his life and teaching.

The leaves on the 'Chedworth Tree' are made of children's hand prints. Each of us has a unique hand print, we are therefore reminded that we are a community of individuals. We celebrate every child's unique gifts and abilities at St Andrew's and encourage one another to use those abilities to serve the common good.

Our Core Christian Values

Children, staff and governors consulted together to determine which Christian values should underpin our corporate life together. Although we focus on twelve values over a twenty four month period, we decided that Trust, Respect and Forgiveness were at the very heart of our life here so these, together with the word Learn are an integral part of our logo.

Learn - We believe that as a Church of England school we are offering our children the very best education possible. We are never complacent! Our children are hugely aspirational and we work to ensure that each individual reaches their full potential intellectually, spiritually, morally, socially and culturally. Our logo reminds us that just as each tree contributes to improving the environment, we aim for nothing less than to prepare and equip our children to 'change the world for the better' whatever their chosen life path.
Trust - As the tree is rooted in the ground, Christianity is rooted in a deep trust that God is good and wants the best for us. We trust him, and in his strength we work continually to become people that others can trust and rely on.

Respect - We believe that every human being is created in God's image and therefore should be treated with dignity and respect. The variety of hands on the tree are a celebration of diversity and difference and we work hard to ensure that our children have opportunities to engage meaningfully with people of different cultures, faiths and traditions.

Forgive - The cross of the logo is a reminder that at the heart of the Christian faith is the belief that, whilst everyone gets things wrong from time to time, God is always ready to forgive and offer the opportunity of a fresh start. Following Jesus' example and teaching, we also seek to forgive one another in order that relationships can flourish and our community can become even stronger and more resilient.

Our School Vision at St Andrew’s

Recently, we have been working together to establish and refine a clear School Vision.

Our ‘Core Christian Values’ of Trust, Respect and Forgiveness remain at the heart of our attitudes towards each other and ourselves as well as informing many of our key policies; these, in turn, shape our day to day practice within the school. Each term, we have a ‘school value in focus’ (for example, ‘Thankfulness’ or Perseverance) which is explored in many different ways throughout the term.

Our School Vision very much encompasses these Christian Values; it represents the future that we wish to create. When our aspirations are set out clearly and with confidence, they become a powerful vehicle for communicating what we want to achieve.

The School Vision also underpins strategy. Our strategy details the areas and issues that we need to address in order to fulfil our vision for the school and gives all involved a clear understanding of what education looks like at our school; it drives forward the unique quality of education that we provide here at St Andrew’s.

St Andrew’s Church of England Primary School Vision

‘I have come that you may have life, and have it to the full’

John 10.10

Learning to live out our Christian values

Our values at St Andrews Church of England Primary School are rooted in the Bible.  We are learning what it means to live out these values in all parts of our lives.

Learning through an inspiring curriculum.

St Andrew’s is a happy, innovative school where our broad curriculum has a particular focus on children’s spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.  We strive for and achieve high academic standards.  Our families are encouraged to be actively involved in the life of our school community and we look to foster an ever stronger partnership with parents for the benefit of the children’s development.

Learning to develop healthy lifestyles

St Andrew’s places a high priority on being physically active, mentally healthy and learning to make healthy lifestyle choices.  We are learning to live out our values, work together in teams, become mentally strong and develop an appreciation of the benefits and challenges of competition, through sport and offer curriculum activities.

Learning to live as part of a wider community

St Andrew’s is at the heart of the life of our village.  We are learning through our keen involvement in the local area including our partnership St Andrew’s church.  We are also learning to be active national and global citizens, striving to be knowledgeable about the challenges and opportunities facing us and how we might best respond to these, informed by our values.

Learning to help one another shine.

At St. Andrew’s, we seek to foster a culture of encouragement and involvement, valuing each individual for who they are and for their unique contribution to our amazing school.

The ethos at our school is founded upon the belief that every person is made in the image of God and deserves to shine and excel.  We aim to be a school where children, staff and parents alike are encouraged to develop and offer their gifts and talents freely for the good of all.

Our vision at St Andrew’s is that every child in our school knows that they are loved by God and learns all that they need to flourish and live their lives to the full.
